Services for Administrators
CCIU realizes that school administrators have a myriad of responsibilitites and must be aware of programs and services developed for teachers, students and schools. This page provides building level and districtwide administrators with links to programs and services to meet the educational and administrative needs of schools and school districts.
Administrative Services
- Administrative Services: Upon request, CCIU provides leadership, coordination and management consulting services to Chester County's 12 school districts.
- Educational Research, Development & Technology Services CCIU provides an array educational technology services to school districts including, but not limited to, the following: technology plan development and implementation; technology surveys and needs analysis; educational video/laser disc library; and software and hardware support & training;
- Information Technology Services: CCIU provides Information Technology services to assist school districts in developing and maintaining the information infrastructure of the district and to assist with their computer and networking needs.
- Joint Purchasing: CCIU coordinates the Chester County School Districts' Joint Purchasing Board, which combines the buying power of the 12 school districts and the intermediate unit to annually save taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars.
- Teacher Temps: CCIU provides Chester County schools with an additional pool of substitute teachers. An individual who is not a certified teacher but who possesses, at a minimum, a bachelors degree is eligible to enroll in the program. The Pennsylvania Department of Education has allowed school districts and intermediate units to apply for emergency certification as per diem substitutes to qualified applicants.
Instructional Resources & Services for Schools
- AccessPA: The Access Pennsylvania Database Project Today: represents a coordinated effort to facilitate resource sharing among libraries throughout the Commonwealth via the World Wide Web. Nearly 3,000 school, public, academic and special libraries participate in the Access Pennsylvania Database project. The Database contains approximately 8.6 million titles and 47.2 million items.
- Educational Research, Development & Technology Services CCIU provides an array educational technology services to school districts including, but not limited to, the following: technology plan development and implementation; technology surveys and needs analysis; educational video/laser disc library; and software and hardware support & training
Programs for Students
- CCIU schools: CCIU operates five school on behalf of Chester County's 12 public school districts. CCIU specializes in creating and delivering educational programs for, career-minded students, students with disabilities, and students for whom a traditional educational setting is not working.
- Mental Health Services: Students eligible for mental health services have been diagnosed with or hospitalized for significant mental health disorders such as oppositional defiant disorders, conduct, mood and anxiety disorders.
- Preschool Services: The Chester County intermediate Unit provides preschool services for children with developmental delays, children from income eligible families, children of high school students enrolled in CCIU's Young Parents program, and children of CCIU employees.
- School-age programs: CCIU provides a variety of educational programs and support services for school-age children. These include Non-Public School Services, Migrant Education, literacy programs (Even Start), Young Parents, and Youth Orchestra.
- Special Education CCIU administers approximately 25% of the special education services offered in Chester County. CCIU serves over 2300 students from preschool to 21 years of age. Seventy-five percent of these students receive services in classrooms located in school districts throughout the county.
- Special Events: CCIU conducts a variety of special events to enhance teaching and learning in the schools, to promote the academic achievement of our students, to encourage academic pursuits outside of the classroom, and to engage children and their parents in meaningful learning activities.
Instructional Resources for Teachers
- Education Consultants Through direct observation of children and on-site interaction with teachers, Education Consultants assess and address critical instructional issues. The goal of the Education Consultants' program is to enhance a school's ability to provide services and programs for all students including those with disabilities.
- Educator on-line course system: A knowledge management system used for creating on-line classrooms. The proram offers a comprehensive array of content delivery, communication and evaluation features in a secure on-line environment
- Instructional Technology: Instructional Technology Services assists teachers in selecting and implementing educational technology in their classrooms.
- Professional Development The Learn 4 Ever web site provides resources, activities, websites, and lesson plans. It is categorized for students, teachers and parents.
- Teacher Center Services: The Teacher Center is a full-service facility that provides teachers with the opportunity, materials and equipment to make instructional materials for their classrooms.
- Video-On-Demand: Stream or download videos to your computer at a moment's notice through CCIU's Video-on-Demand service.
Training and Certification Resources for Teachers
- Chester County Alliance an alliance between Delaware County Community College (DCCC) and the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) to provide a full scope of college-related, non-credit courses such as adult literacy programs, professional certifications, community education, computer training, and contracted training for business and industry.
Substitute Teachers
- Substitute Teacher Networking Group: The Substitute Networking Group provides substitutes with a collaborative environment in which they can increase their professional skills and knowledge, and discuss issues relating specifically to substitute teaching.
