Ninth Grade Required Reading List
Each incoming 9th grade student is required to read one book over the summer and complete one assignment from the Summer Book Projects List. The project will be submitted in English class during the first week of school. The completed summer book project will be the first graded assignment for the marking period. A cover page should be attached to the summer reading project containing the student's name and the title and author of the book selected.
Books are available to purchase at Barnes and Noble and other local bookstores and are also available to borrow for FREE from public libraries!
Summer Reading Project List
- Journal as you go. As you're reading the book, keep a two-sided reading journal. The left side should have quotes from the book and page numbers. The right side should have your questions, thoughts, observations, revelations, etc.
- Make a test for the book you read. Include 10 true-false, 10 multiple choice, and 10 short essay questions. After writing the test, provide the answers for your questions.
- Find the top 10 web sites a character in your book would most frequently visit. Include 2-3 sentences for each on why your character likes each of the sites.
