Driver Education
Driver training consists of two separate courses: Classroom (Highway Safety) and Behind the Wheel. Students are not required to take either part of driver education in the state of Pennsylvania before obtaining a license, or to take them in any particular order. However, it is recommended, if possible, that classroom be taken first so that students can learn about safe driving practices before starting behind-the-wheel training.
The Chester County Intermediate Unit provides driver education training in the West Chester Area, Tredyffrin/Easttown, Downingtown Area, Great Valley, Coatesville Area, Avon Grove and Kennett Consolidated school districts. However, any high school student residing in one of these school districts can take driver education through the IU.
