Admission Procedure - Practical Nursing Program
To complete an application for admission to the Practical Nursing Program, please follow the procedure below:
Application Form and Fee
- Complete and mail both pages of the application.
- Include a check or money order for the $50 fee (covers application and testing cost). Make your check payable to "CAT Brandywine." This fee is non-refundable.
- Your application form and handwritten essay must be received by us before you can register to take the Nurse Entrance Test. You may include the $50 fee with your application and essay when you mail/bring the application and essay in or pay the $50 fee by cash or money order on the day of the test.
- Attach a brief (no more than two paragraphs) handwritten essay stating why you are interested in a nursing career.
References
Have at least two persons (other than family and close friends) with whom you have had a working relationship in the past year complete and mail a reference form to us. A working relationship could be carpooling, volunteer work, etc.
Transcript/G.E.D. Certificate
- Request your senior high school to send us an official copy of your graduation transcript with the Official School Seal. Applicants with foreign transcripts should contact the program office regarding possible additional requirements.
- If you have a G.E.D., we must receive the certificate number and scores. Applicants with non-Pennsylvania G.E.D.'s should contact the program office regarding possible additional requirements.
Nurse Entrance Test
- The Nurse Entrance Test (NET) is required. Minimum criteria in the math (50) and reading (48) sections must be achieved. A pharmacology course, to be completed prior to enrollment, is mandated if your NET score in math is between 50 and 65.
- After submitting your application, please notify us as soon as possible which test date you will attend. To schedule your test date, please call Nancy Bowman or Tedescha Short, Practical Nursing Program Secretaries, at 610-384-6214.
- Upcoming test dates:
October 9, 2008, January 9, 2009, February 13, 2009, March 13, 2009, April 24, 2009 and May 15, 2009
- Your application must be on file to schedule a test date.
- For information about purchasing a study guide to help prepare for the NET, visit the Educational Resources, Inc. website.
- You may repeat the NET once. You must wait three months (90 days) to repeat the NET. The cost for a re-test is $50.
Interview
When test scores return indicating that you have passed, you will be scheduled for a group interview with the nursing director and/or faculty.
Acceptance and Notification
- Faculty, who will consider all above accumulated data and dates of application, will decide enrollment.
- You will be notified in writing of your acceptance status.
