Career and Technical Programs, Grades 9-12

Starting in September 2008, the Chester County Technical College High School will provide traditional career and technical training to an estimated 600 high school students. In keeping with the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s focus on high-priority occupations for workforce development, the following career and technology clusters will be offered to secondary students:

Career and Technical Programs

The following career and technical programs will be offered at the Chester County Technical College. Please note: Since the career and technical programs course content is always being revised to meet the latest standards of business and industry, actual course content may vary by September 2008.

  • Allied Health Science Technology: The Animal Science and Technology program is a technical preparatory program that prepares students for gainful employment in the small animal care industry or for pursuit of further education at post-secondary schools.

  • Animal Science & Technology: The animal Science and Technology program is a technical preparatory program that prepares students for gainful employment in the small animal care industry or for pursuit of further education at post-secondary schools.

  • Automotive Collision Technology: The Auto Collision Technology program provides students with hands-on training as well as the technical knowledge required to master all types of collision repairs.

  • Automotive Service Technology: The Automotive Service Technology prepares students for an entry-level position in the field of automotive service and repair.

  • Business Academy: The Business Academy is a comprehensive course of study that concentrates on business education and business computer applications.

  • Carpentry & Cabinetmaking: The Carpentry & Cabinetmaking program provides students with the skills necessary to find employment in residential construction and home improvement.

  • Computer Information Systems: Information technology continues to be one of the fastest growing occupations in the country. Students will have the opportunity to concentrate in the following areas: Web site development, programming and networking.

  • Cosmetology: The Cosmetology program provides students with the instruction and skill training necessary to successfully complete the Pennsylvania State Board of Cosmetology examination and to secure a professional license in cosmetology. The instructional program includes: occupational theory and skill training in hygiene, sterilization/ sanitation, scalp treatments, permanent waving, manicuring, shampoos and rinses, hairstyling, hair coloring, haircutting, facials and makeup application, anatomy and physiology, salon management, first aid and related state laws.

  • Culinary Arts: The Culinary Arts program at the Center for Arts & Technology prepares students for successful and rewarding careers in the production aspect of the food service industry. The production curriculum includes training in food preparation, short order and high-volume cooking, baking, customer service, safety and sanitation.

  • Early Childhood Care & Education: The Early Childhood Care & Education program prepares students for entry-level positions in the child care field and for further training in early childhood education. Students may also prepare for the Certified Child Care Professional Credential through the National Child Care Association. Through articulation agreements with local community colleges, students can earn three to twelve college credits at participating post-secondary schools.

  • Electronic Systems Technology: Students in the Electronic Systems Technology program learn how to build and test electronic circuits and how to apply the electronic theories of audio systems, radio and wire communication, computers, digital communication and light wave applications to real world situations.

  • Engine Technology & Recreational Vehicles: Students in this program learn how to diagnose, repair, rebuild, and machine a variety of two and four-cycle engines that are air cooled and liquid cooled. This program also introduces the operation of the diesel engine. The ever-increasing complexity of engines and the vehicles/equipment they power demands highly specialized skills. Topics of study include: fuel systems, electronic systems, lubrication systems, cooling systems and high performance aftermarket equipment.

  • Health Occupations: The Health Occupations course of study combines instruction in medical terminology, medical abbreviations, anatomy, physiology, medical ethics, nutrition, growth and development, basic nursing, dental assisting, physical therapy, and medical assisting skills.

  • Horticulture & Landscape Gardening: The Horticulture program provides students with instruction in plant identification, flower arranging, basic greenhouse operation, garden maintenance, and retail and wholesale marketing. Landscape Gardening includes instruction and hands-on training in growing and maintaining trees and shrubs, annual flowers and vegetable plants. Students also learn the use of the various types of tools and equipment, and structures unique to horticulture and landscaping. Students also receive instruction in landscape design and construction.

  • HVAC/Refrigeration Technology: The HVAC/Refrigeration Technology program provides students with the opportunity to learn how to install, maintain, and troubleshoot a wide range of heating, ventilation, cooling, and refrigeration systems. Classroom presentations are reinforced by hands-on shop projects. In addition, students have the opportunity to obtain EPA Refrigerant Recovery Certification and to take the Industry Competency Exam (ICE) through the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI).

  • Teacher Academy: The Teacher Academy is a college preparatory program for academically talented high school seniors considering a teaching career. The program provides a foundation to develop and practice skills necessary for a successful professional career in education.
