Allied Health Science Technology

The Allied Health program introduces academically-talented high school seniors to a variety of health careers available today.

Allied Health Science Technology Occupational Program:

It includes 7.5 hours per week of classroom and clinical experience in a health care facility. Students’ clinical experiences are supervised by a program instructor in collaboration with hospital staff who serve as mentors.

Enrollment is limited at each location due to the number of clinical rotation areas.

This is a highly competitive program and requires applicants to have a minimum 3.0 GPA to apply, a requirement that is strictly enforced.

Students must provide their own transportation.

Clinical experience:

The clinical segment of the program provides students with a wide variety of experiences in the various departments of a health care facility including: therapeutic, diagnostic, informational and environmental services.

Mentors in specialty areas provide an overview of the following:

  • scope and nature of practice
  • career opportunities
  • post-secondary education requirements
  • practical experience
  • integration of health care systems
  • ongoing professional development requirements

Mentors also evaluate student learning experiences, including: knowledge development, attitude towards learning, communication skills, and professional demeanor.

Classroom experience:

The classroom component of the Allied Health program includes instruction in the following:

  • anatomy and physiology
  • medical terminology
  • safe practices
  • medical ethics
  • legal requirements
  • interpersonal dynamics and communication
  • history, current trends and the future of health care

In addition, advance preparation for clinical rotations, a written report of the student’s clinical experiences, and a portfolio of the student's goals and experiences are required.

This program is available through Brandywine Hospital, Chester County Hospital, Jennersville Regional Hospital, and Paoli Memorial Hospital.

Career Opportunities:

Career opportunities are multiple and varied. All allied health careers anticipate excellent job growth and hiring for years to come.
