Carpentry & Cabinetmaking
The Carpentry & Cabinetmaking program provides students with the skills necessary to find employment in residential construction and home improvement.
The rough carpentry component provides instruction in the rough layout of walls, roof rafters, stairs and floors. The finished carpentry component provides instruction in the installation of doors, windows, trim and other close tolerance work.
The CAT Brandywine House Building Project provides students opportunities to experience work-site conditions and perform live carpentry work as part of a construction team in a real world application.
The cabinetmaking component covers construction of various cabinets and furniture including the use of laminates. A major focus of the cabinetmaking program is the construction of the joints required in fine cabinetry and furniture construction.
Students also study blueprint reading, construction methods and estimating, materials selection and the safe use of hand and power tools.
Students are responsible for the completion of hands-on carpentry and cabinetmaking projects from start to finish.
