Information technology continues to be one of the fastest growing occupations in the country. Students will have the opportunity to concentrate in the following areas: Web site development, programming and networking. Students in the program will study all three areas in the order that follows:
Fundamentals of Networking:
Students will study the following: an introduction to and the history of computers, comparisons of hardware and software, vocabulary, Linux installation, networking connectivity, topologies and protocols, protocol layering concepts, the OSI Model, local area network (LAN) and system architectures, and network operating systems (NOS). Students will also study the BASH Shell, common administrative tasks, compression, system back-up and software installation. This
concentration leads to LINUX+, Network+, and Server+ Certifications. On-site certification is available at the Brandywine Campus.
Web Site Development:
Students will cover the following topics: Internet navigation, exploring the Internet, research activities, Web page development using HTML, JavaScript and JAVA, building a Web site (Internet and intranet) using Perl and CGI Scripts, practical business applications, and case studies. This concentration leads to i-Net+ Certification by CompTIA.
Application Development/Programming:
Students concentrating in Application Development/Programming will study the following: programming language concepts and paradigms, traditional versus visual application development, and analysis of data structures. Students may create a CompTIA project and work toward certification.

Students in this program may follow career opportunities as a computer information system manager, computer support specialist, computer systems analyst, computer science teacher, computer programmer, IT specialist (information technology specialist), LAN administrator (local area network administrator), network administrator, local area network specialist, network systems administrator, web designer, computer service technician, operation research analyst, and computer applications/software instructor.
