Cosmetology
The Cosmetology program provides students with the instruction and skill training necessary to successfully complete the Pennsylvania State Board of Cosmetology examination and to secure a professional license in cosmetology. The instructional program includes: occupational theory and skill training in hygiene, sterilization/ sanitation, scalp treatments, permanent waving, manicuring, shampoos and rinses, hairstyling, hair coloring, haircutting, facials and makeup application, anatomy and physiology, salon management, first aid and related state laws.
The Pennsylvania State Board of Cosmetology requires 1250 hours of study in both theory and practical applications before a student is eligible to take the written and practical licensing examination.
By enrolling in the Chester County Technical College High School cosmetology program, students can earn their Pennsylvania State Licensing exam hours while still in high school. Students studying cosmetology may apply for a position as a shampoo assistant in a salon while still in school.
Upon the completion of 200 hours of study in manicuring and/or 300 hours in facial-skin care and a cumulative average of 75% or higher, cosmetology students may apply to take the Manicurist and/or Cosmetician State Board examinations. Upon successful completion of the examinations, students earn their professional licenses as manicurists and/or cosmeticians.
