HVAC/Refrigeration Technology
The HVAC/Refrigeration Technology program provides students with the opportunity to learn how to install, maintain, and troubleshoot a wide range of heating, ventilation, cooling, and refrigeration systems.
Classroom presentations are reinforced by hands-on shop projects. In addition to shop activities, students participate in the House Building Project in which they design and install heating and cooling systems in a house they build along with students studying other construction trades at CAT Brandywine. Basic electrical and control circuit concepts are also taught and applied.
In addition, students have the opportunity to obtain EPA Refrigerant Recovery Certification and to take the Industry Competency Exam (ICE) through the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI).
Career Opportunities:
Successful graduates of the program are prepared for entry-level employment in the HVAC industry. With continued education and/or experience, the HVAC technician can expect advancement in a career with above average income and security. HVAC/ refrigeration journey persons are among the highest paid and most sought after in the construction industry.
