The 2008 Chester County Spelling Bee is sponsored by the Daily Local News and is open to all students enrolled in a Chester County public, private, parochial or home school in grades five through eight and who have not reached their 16th birthday by June 30, 2008. Each school must register with the Scripps National Spelling Bee (www.spellingbee.com) and submit a $99 fee. The registration deadline is October 15, 2007. Schools may register from October 16 through December 14, 2007 but will be assessed a late fee in addition to the $99 fee.

Participating Schools
Each participating school may send one student to the Chester County Spelling Bee who is in grades five, six, seven or eight and who has not reached his or her 16th birthday by June 30, 2008. The school has sole autonomy to determine the qualifying structure for its entrant in the Chester County Spelling Bee provided it follows the eligibility requirements stated above.

The Bee's study guide from Merrian-Webster, 2008 Spell It!, will appear free through "www.myspellit.com" with these features:
- interactive format with links to Merrian-Webster definitions and pronunciations
- challenge words for advanced spellers
- activities to promote a deeper understanding of the English language
- printable study lists

The 2008 Winners
The champion of the Chester County Spelling Bee will represent Chester County in the National Spelling Bee Competition held in Washington, DC, on May 28 and 29, 2008. The 2008 winners are:
