Training and Consultation - Assistive Technology
Assistive Technology services may be considered for any student who has an Individualized Educational Program or has a Section 504 service agreement.
Services
Assistive Technology Consultants train and support district teams in the selection, acquisition, and use of assistive technology devices. Assistive technology provides students with disabilities the means to successfully access the general education curriculum and to meet their educational goals. Our services include:
- Observations of and consultations regarding students
- Assistance with the team assessment process
- Recommendations regarding appropriate strategies and/or technologies for use in regular or special education settings
- Guided practice and support in implementing technologies
- Training and staff development for school district personnel
- Dissemination of information regarding available resources

Consultants are available to conduct training programs on-site at schools throughout Chester County to address the specific needs of a district, school, or student.

Meet the Assistive Technology Consultation Team
Referral Process
The assistive technology team is available to observe students and provide consultation to educational teams in the Preschool Special Education program and school-age programs throughout Chester County. To schedule an observation/consultation:
- Gather current IEP and download and complete the assistive technology referral form
- Have the referral form signed by district LEA
- Send the referral form to the assistive technology team at the CCIU
The Initial Meeting
- The assistive technology consultant will facilitate the meeting, based on data gathered by the IEP team and, if applicable, information gathered through an observation by the assistive technology consultant and complete an action plan
- The format of the meeting will follow the assistive technology acquisition process
- A follow-up meeting is arranged to share the results of a trial of a strategy or technology
- The assistive technology consultant will continue to be available to the school team for follow-up assistance and support
