Training and Consultation - Autism Support Team

The Autism Support Team provides support for the educational needs of students diagnosed with Autism spectrum disorders.

The Autism Support Team provides services for students diagnosed with:

  • Autism
  • Asperger's Syndrome
  • Rett's Syndrome
  • Childhood Disintegrative Disorder
  • PDD-NOS

Services

Support can be provided at the student, classroom and/or school-wide level, including:

  • Observations of and consultations regarding students
  • Assistance in building a team process with student's team
  • Recommendations regarding appropriate strategies and/or accommodations for use in regular or special education
  • Guided practice and support in implementing strategies
  • Training and staff development for school district personnel
  • Sensitivity training for students and staff
  • Facilitation of transition (grade to grade, school to school)
  • Dissemination of information regarding available resources

The CCIU Autism Support Team is constantly creating and delivering new workshops for Chester County educators at the CCIU Educational Service Center. Available workshop topics include:

  • Overview of Autism spectrum disorders
  • Understanding Asperger's syndrome
  • Creating social stories
  • Using visual strategies
  • Behavior and data collection
  • Instructional strategies
  • Teaching social thinking
  • Communication strategies
  • Sensory processing

Customized Training

The team conducts training programs at sites and schools throughout Chester County. This allows CCIU education consultants to tailor training programs to the specific needs of a district, school, or student.

Meet the Autism Support Team

Referral Process

The Autism Support Team is available to observe students and provide consultation to teachers and therapists in the Preschool Special Education program and school-age programs throughout Chester County.

To schedule an observation or consultation:

  • Complete the referral form and mail to Autism Support Team at CCIU.
  • Schedule a time for an observation and a follow-up meeting when contacted by a member of the Autism Support Team.
