Downingtown, PA, June 11, 2008 – On Wednesday , June 11, sixteen students proudly accepted their general educational development (GED) certificates from Jody Harman, coordinator of the GED program for Chester County Alliance.

Dr. Virginia Carter, Provost of Delaware County Community College and the keynote speaker for the GED commencement ceremony, congratulated students on their achievement. Two of the graduates spoke of their personal experiences leading to graduation. Samantha Bernard, a young single mother from Cochranville, shared how the realization of her lack of education motivated her towards this goal. All of the speakers thanked their families and teachers for their support and encouragement, and expressed appreciation for the program.

Crystal Smith, instructor at the Chester program's evening class, delivered a moving tribute to the students; thanking them for the opportunity to feel personal fulfillment in her own life.

After being awarded their certificates, the graduates, along with family, friends, teachers and administrators from DCCC and CCIU, celebrated their achievements with light refreshments.
