Downingtown Head Start center to open in September 2007
Downingtown, PA – The Chester County Head Start program will open a preschool center in Downingtown in September 2007. The Chester County Intermediate Unit currently operates six Head Start preschool centers throughout Chester County, including ones in Coatesville, Kennett Square, Oxford, Phoenixville and West Chester.
The Downingtown center is being opened to better serve the needs of families in the Downingtown community who are unable to take advantage of the Coatesville and West Chester locations, said Chester County Head Start supervisor Linda Rigler.
Close to several residential communities, the Downingtown center will be accessible to a greater number of people and will be easier for parents to drop off and pick up their children.
Head Start is a federally-funded, national program that promotes school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social and other services to enrolled children and families. The Chester County Head Start program provides preschool education services to children who are aged three- to five-years old from low-income families. Head Start prepares young children for kindergarten by providing preschool programs, physical activities, nutritious snacks and health screenings.
