Nominate a CCIU teacher for the Citadel Heart of Learning Award!

THORNDALE, PA — The Citadel Heart of Learning Awards, fondly referred to as the Academy Awards for Chester County teachers, will begin accepting nominations for the 2010 awards today, October 1, 2009.

In a joint collaboration, Citadel and the Chester County Intermediate Unit created the Citadel Heart of Learning Awards.  The program was designed to recognize and thank Chester County’s teachers while raising awareness of the impact that their hard work and dedication have not only on their students and the student’s families, but on the entire community.

“We can never thank our teachers enough for what they do, but it is an honor to be able to recognize some of the most deserving through this awards program,” said Jeff March, Citadel President and CEO.

Citadel is excited to announce that video nominations will be accepted again this year.  Video nominations can be submitted through YouTube by following the instructions found on [ http://www.citadelheartoflearning.com/ ]CitadelHeartofLearning.com.  They should be no longer than five minutes in length and no larger than 50 MB.  Written nominations can also be submitted online at CitadelHeartofLearning.com.

Anyone can nominate an active teacher whose innovation and enthusiasm in the classroom inspires students to want to learn.

Fifteen finalists, one public school teacher from each of the 13 public school districts in Chester County, one teacher from the Chester County Intermediate Unit and one teacher from a Chester County non-public school which also includes charter and home schools, will be chosen from the nominations and will be recognized at the Citadel Heart of Learning Awards banquet held in the spring.  Each finalist will receive $500 to use in their classrooms.  From these 15 finalists, three winners (one high school, one middle school and one elementary school teacher) will be awarded with the Citadel Heart of Learning Award and an additional $1500 to use in their classrooms.

Additionally, two students will be honored this year.  The students with the best written and best video nomination will be awarded a $250 gift certificate and will be honored at the awards banquet.

Nominations are open from October 1 to December 31, 2009.  Nominations can be submitted by anyone – other teachers, students, parents, friends or family by visiting www.citadelfcu.org or www.citadelheartoflearning.com.
