Chester County Technical College High School is accepting applications for 2008-09
West Grove, Pa - The Chester County Technical College High School, Pennsylvania’s first hybrid career and technical high school/community college, is now accepting applications for high school students in grades nine through 12.
Located in Penn Township in southern Chester County, the high school will serve students who reside in the Avon Grove, Kennett-Consolidated, Oxford and Unionville-Chadds Ford School Districts. As a public high school, the Technical College High School is free to high school students residing in these public school districts.
The Chester County Technical College High School, which will open in September 2008, is a joint venture of the Chester County Intermediate Unit and Delaware County Community College. As such, the Technical College High School will offer career and technical programs for high school students such as the ones now offered at the Center for Arts & Technology; and Delaware County Community College will offer associate degree programs to college students.
The most unique aspect of the school is that it will also offer dual-enrollment classes for high school students that blend career and technical programs with associate degree college courses. Students in dual-enrollment programs can graduate from high school with up to 16 college credits.

The career and technical programs to be taught at the technical college high school include, but are not limited to, the following (course offerings may change based on student enrollment):
- Allied Health Science Technology: The Allied Health program is a college preparatory program for academically-talented high school seniors considering a career in health care. The program provides a foundation to develop and practice skills necessary for a successful professional career in medicine.
- Animal Science & Technology: The Animal Science & Technology program prepares students for careers in veterinary science and the small animal care industry.
- Applied Engineering Technology: The Applied Engineering Technology program allows high school students to earn up to 16 college credits in electronics during their junior and senior years of high school. Students in this program are dually enrolled at Technical College High School and at Delaware County Community College (DCCC).
- Automotive Collision Technology: The Auto Collision Technology program provides students with hands-on training as well as the technical knowledge required to master all types of collision repairs.
- Automotive Service Technology: Automotive Service Technology prepares students for an entry-level position in the field of automotive service and repair or to pursue an associate’s degree in automotive science technology.
- Carpentry & Cabinetmaking: The Carpentry & Cabinetmaking program provides students with the skills necessary to find employment in residential construction and home improvement.
- **Computer Information Systems: Information technology continues to be one of the fastest growing occupations in the country. Students will have the opportunity to concentrate in the following areas: Web site development, programming and networking.
- Cosmetology: The Cosmetology program provides students with the instruction and skill training necessary to successfully complete the Pennsylvania State Board of Cosmetology examination and to secure a professional license in cosmetology.
- Culinary Arts: The Culinary Arts program prepares students for successful and rewarding careers in the food service industry. The program includes instruction in food preparation, restaurant management, catering, culinary arts, short-order and high-volume cooking, baking, and customer service.
- Early Childhood Care & Education: The Early Childhood Care & Education program prepares students for entry-level positions in the child care field and for further training in early childhood education. Students may also prepare for the Certified Child Care Professional Credential through the National Child Care Association.
- Electronic Systems Technology: Students in the Electronic Systems Technology program learn how to build and test electronic circuits and how to apply the electronic theories of audio systems, radio and wire communication, computers, digital communication and light wave applications to real world situations.
- Engine Technology & Recreational Vehicles: Students in this program learn how to diagnose, repair, rebuild, and machine a variety of two and four-cycle engines that are air cooled and liquid cooled. The ever-increasing complexity of engines and the vehicles/equipment they power demands highly specialized skills.
- Finance Academy: The Finance Academy is a comprehensive course of study that concentrates on finance, business education and business computer applications.
- Health Occupations: The Health Occupations course of study combines instruction in medical terminology, medical abbreviations, anatomy, physiology, medical ethics, nutrition, growth and development, basic nursing, physical therapy, and medical assisting skills.
- Horticulture & Landscape Gardening: The Horticulture program provides students with instruction in plant identification, flower arranging, basic greenhouse operation, garden maintenance, and retail and wholesale marketing. Landscape Gardening includes instruction and hands-on training in growing and maintaining trees and shrubs, annual flowers and vegetable plants.
- HVAC/Refrigeration Technology: The HVAC/Refrigeration Technology program provides students with the opportunity to learn how to install, maintain, and troubleshoot a wide range of heating, ventilation, cooling, and refrigeration systems. Classroom presentations are reinforced by hands-on projects.
- Security & Police Sciences: The Security & Police Sciences program prepares students for careers in the security and law enforcement fields. Students who graduate from this program may continue to study criminal justice at the college level. Students also will have obtained skills necessary to be successful in career-oriented positions.
- Teacher Academy: The Teacher Academy is a college preparatory program for academically-talented high school seniors considering a teaching career. The program provides a foundation to develop and practice skills necessary for a successful professional career in education.
