General Education Development

General education development (GED) programs provide high school level instruction to adult students who have not graduated from high school. Instruction is provided in writing skills, social studies, science, reading, and mathematics. The community-based programs are located throughout the county and provide instruction in those areas tested by the GED Testing Service. The institutional program provides similar classes to adults living at Gaudenzia House and to adults incarcerated at the Chester County Prison and the Chester County Work Release Center. Employers may also arrange to have programs operated at their workplace.
GED programs for qualifying adults is free.

The testing center assists students in acquiring the Commonwealth Secondary School Diploma by passing the test of General Education Development. Tests are given monthly, pre-registration is required.

Chester County school directors and school district administrative personnel are apprised of current legislative and regulatory activity. Area legislators are also informed of the impact of proposed legislation on local school districts. The director also serves as a county liaison to various statewide legislative councils. Chester County School Boards Legislative Council is a component of this service.
