The Practical Nursing program is a post-secondary program that prepares students to pass the NCLEX-PN licensing exam and enter the nursing profession or to continue their education.
The Practical Nursing Program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission and approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
This program, located at the Center for Arts & Technology Brandywine Campus, includes 1,635 hours of instruction for students who have graduated from high school or completed their GED and meet the minimum standard for admission on the Nurse Entrance Test.
The program has an excellent reputation throughout the county and consistently boasts 95% job placement for graduates seeking employment. Day and evening options are available. Criminal and child abuse clearances and drug screening are required for enrollment.

Preparing Adolescents for Adult Life (PAAL) Program

The PAAL program allows students with autism to use the community as their classroom in order to prepare them for the transition from school to adult life. The program provides autistic adolescents with the skills necessary to lead an independent life.
The PAAL program is a collaboration between educators, families, local business people, and the community.

The PAAL instructional center is located in the heart of Downingtown, and is a short distance from the PAAL life skills house.

The PAAL Life Skills House
The PAAL life skills house, sponsored by Mission for Educating Children with Autism (MECA), provides students with the opportunity to learn and practice daily living skills necessary to lead an independent life in a real-world environment.

Preschool Special Education Services (formerly known as Early Intervention)

Preschool Special Education Early Intervention Services provide learning experiences for children with developmental delays in the area of speech and language, cognition, social behavior and fine and gross motor skills. Classroom instruction is provided for children, ages three to five years old.
Programming is provided for eligible aged children specifically at the direction of the Individualized Education Plan team. Districts may choose to provide preschool special education services to students during their kindergarten year if appropriate.
The primary goal of the program is to improve a child’s developmental levels to enable him/her to access the general curriculum when they are school age.
The instructional program includes the following five areas:

- Communication skills
- Social and behavioral skills
- Motor skills
- Language skills

- Speech and language therapy
- Vision and hearing services

Prime Time

The Prime Time program provides adult students with daytime skills training in any of the occupational programs offered at the Centers for Arts & Technology. Typically, adult students enroll for three hours per day per semester. However, they may elect to attend for more than three hours per day and/or more than a semester. Tuition is paid by individuals, sponsoring employers or government agencies. Individual training plans are created to meet the student’s individual career goals and/or the needs of the employer.

Psychiatric consultation services include diagnostic and consultative intervention services to students, ages three to 21 years old, who are enrolled in regular and/or special education programs. Services are provided by licensed child psychiatrists.

The intermediate unit assists districts in providing requirements to provide psychological counseling to students. Assistance to districts of both a technical and direct service nature is offered. Specifically, the following supports and services are available:
- Technical support to secure alternative funding mechanisms, i.e., ACCESS and Behavioral Health Rehabilitative Services (BHRS).
- Direct training to district psychologists and IEP
teams on the use of effective evidence-based psychological counseling treatment.
- Psychological counseling to students by Home &
Community Services licensed psychologists and
licensed social workers.
