Preschool Special Education Services (FKA Early Intervention)

Special Education Preschool Services provide learning experiences for children with developmental
delays
in the area of speech and language,
cognition, social behavior and fine and gross motor skills. Classroom
instruction is provided for children, ages three to five years old, by a
teacher and an instructional assistant.
Programming
is provided for eligible age children specifically at the direction of
the IEP team. Districts may choose to provide Special Education Preschool Services students in their kindergarten year if appropriate.
The primary goal of
the program is to improve a child's developmental levels to enable him/her
to access the general curriculum.
The instructional program includes the following five
areas:
- Readiness
skills
- Communication
skills
- Social
and behavioral skills
- Motor
skills
- Language
skills
Related services provided in the basic program
are:
- Speech
and language therapy
- Vision
and hearing services
- Occupational
and physical therapy
Health and support services provided in the basic
program include:
- Psychological
assessment and consultative services
- Psychiatric
consultation
- Service
coordinators
- Individual
assessment and educational planning
- Learning
outcomes based on the child's
needs
- Specialized
sensory materials and equipment and adaptive
equipment
- Family
service plan provided at parent's
request
- Parent
training
