Kennett Square, PA – Students at Mary D. Lang Elementary School are discovering how much fun it can be to stay after school – that’s right, after school. Students in the school’s Club Discovery eagerly study the scientific process, write original poetry, and compose short stories as part of the seven-week afterschool program that strengthens students’ academic skills.

Guests received head-to-toe star treatment including haircuts, facials, manicures, massages and pedicures.

Knecht named a fellow in the National Academy of Nursing Education

Coatesville, PA – National fellow Patricia Knecht knew she wanted to be a nurse from the time she was a little girl. She grew up reading the Cherry Ames nursing mystery book series that depicted nursing in various settings which would only be the start of her journey in the nursing field. Today she is the director of practical nursing at the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU). Recently, she achieved one of the nursing professions highest honors: Knecht was inducted into the third class of fellows of the National Academy of Nursing Education by the National League for Nursing (NLN).

West Chester Rustin takes early lead in academic competition

Downingtown, PA – The Chester County Academic Competition, sponsored by Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union, kicked off its 26th season on October 2, 2009. Over a six-day period, teams of students from 18 county high schools flexed their intellectual muscle in a contest of knowledge and recall. This was the first round of matches in a series of four. Teams will compete again in November, December and January.
