Students from West Chester, Coatesville and Great Valley take top honors at Chester County High School Art Show

West Chester, PA - Over 400 young artists displayed their artwork at the 33rd annual Chester County High School Congressional Art Show. Receiving top honors for their work were Laura Woolford from Henderson High School, West Chester Area School District; Sarah Simmons, Coatesville Area Senior High School; and Aurora McFee, Great Valley High School. Woolford, Simmons and McFee placed first, second and third respectively in the Congressional Art Competition sponsored by the Congressman Jim Gerlach, United States House of Representatives, 6th Congressional District.

Coatesville, PA - Shana Bivins, Liz Golden and Nicole Brugger have a message for their peers at the Center for Arts & Technology Brandywine Campus: Don’t Drink and Drive. It’s not a new message, but for these three students it’s a message worth repeating – again and again and again. It’s so important that they have organized a weeklong series of events at their school in hopes that their message will save lives.

Coatesville, Pa - Ralph Showalter knows firsthand the difficulties that face a person with Cerebral Palsy. He has lived with it his entire life. Not content to let the condition dictate the quality of his life, Showalter has started a campaign to raise awareness and money for people living with Cerebral Palsy. CDC students climb aboard the "Polar Express"

January 8, 2007 - Approximately 160 elementary students at the Child and Career Development Center were issued a ticket for fun and education aboard “The Polar Express” when the Santa Claus-themed “train” made a special stop at their school in late December. “The Polar Express” ride was hosted by the CDC’s middle and high school-aged Upper Academic School students under the direction of secondary teacher Kristin Gallahan.

CCIU partners with Target for Migrant Education Literacy Project

Downingtown, PA (November 17, 2006) — The Chester County Intermediate Unit Migrant Education Program announced a partnership with Target for its Migrant Education Literacy Project. This project is a parent-training program that engages parents and their children in the process of becoming literate members of society. Families will participate in weekly parent/child programs that emphasize school readiness skills, immersion in a variety of literacy materials, and English-as-a-Second-Language development and also receive home libraries that include books, puzzles, flashcards, journals, and other literacy materials.
