Summer Career Academies 2016

Preparing today's youth for tomorrow's careers!

Registration closes May 15th.


TCHS Career Academies are $55 for a one week program, TCHS Culinary Camps are $155 for a one week program.

Students may only attend one week of TCHS Career Academies at any one of the three campuses.  

Students may attend multiple weeks of the TCHS Culinary Camp.

*This academy is reserved for students in the Phoenixville area who would normally attend the academy at TCHS Pickering.

Registration ends May 1st and no refund will be issued after this date.  Participant substitutions are not permitted.

Academy Description
Animal Science Explore the amazing world of animal science.  This is for the animal enthusiast who maybe considering a future working with animals. Learn the health care, grooming, physiology, and  training of large and small animals.  Visiting speakers enlighten and delight participants.
Auto Service & Collision Automotive essentials are key for every young car enthusiast. Bumper to bumper, and the dings in between, learn about general automotive maintenance and repair.
Building America Every great invention begins with an idea, a blue print and expert building skills. From Edison to Ford, these industrial giants, mastered manufacturing and machining to bring their ideas to life.  Each day includes a variety of activities, including tours and manufacturing demonstrations. 
Commercial & Graphic Arts Learn the basics of design, color theory, page layout, lettering and production skills to create a portfolio of work using of computer graphic design skills.
Computer Networking Hands-on training in operating systems, applications programming languages and networking equipment has computer masters programmed for a future in computer support and operations, networking and software development fields.
Cosmetology & Barbering Explore the world of beauty by learning the latest, hair, skin and nail trends in a salon setting using the tools of trade.  Learn step-by-step manis, pedis, facials and hair styles.  An introduction to careers in cosmetology and barbering will also be discussed.
Electronics & Robotics Working in pairs, build a robot utilizing LEGO Mindstorm kits. Program your robot to move, react and make sounds to solve challenges. Investigate electronic components, including: circuits, wiring and more.  This is a great session to sign-up with a friend.
Engineering Technology Engineers design almost everything that we use every day. There are many kinds of engineers including electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and robotics engineers. This summer find out what they do and how they do it. Everyday we will do experiments in electronics and mechanics.
Game Design Don't just play games, MAKE them! Using free game design programs, create your own dynamic game while learning the importance of mathematical and computational design. Build your own game and play a friends in this fun and interactive camp.
Girls Explore Their Future This girls-only camp provides girls to try a variety of career paths that they may not otherwise consider.  Each day provides a new, fun hands-on career experience.  One day during the week will be dedicated to a career exploration program where participants will discover their own personal aptitudes. Girls get to explore their future in a week long fun experience.
Health Careers Calling future doctors, nurses, paramedics and other health professionals.  Spend a hands-on week with healthcare professionals and discover the integrated world of health care. You may find your calling.
Home Remodeling Home remodeling begins with the basics of carpentry, electrical and plumbing skills.  Using the tools of the trade master the skills of contracting in fun hands-on activities.
Law Enforcement & Emergency Management Learn to conduct surveillance operations, finger print and gathering evidence.  Enhance your understanding and gain a foundation for a possible career in the criminal sciences and emergency management. If you have good judgment and want to protect and serve, write yourself a ticket for success and explore this program.
Media Technology: Putting the You in YouTube Develop a story idea with a production team, then turn that concept into a script and a shot-by-shot storyboard of the camera angles. Learn how to shoot and edit a movie at the world’s number-one moviemaking summer camp. Screen your movie at the end of the week in a small film-festival-like atmosphere and leave camp with the knowledge required to create a professional-looking movie.
Mobile App Coding Discover how to program an iOS app using Swift™, the new standard of programming for devices created by Apple®. Throughout the course, students will explore fundamental programming concepts and use these to create a basic app for iOS. Instructors will help the kids along the way, ensuring that they are able to get through the more challenging parts of programming in Swift™
My Big Idea This entrepreneurial and innovative program focuses on creating new products or business or social ventures that can help change the world. Those with an aptitude for providing a financially secure future for themselves and others will find this program to be a solid investment.
Recreational Vehicles & Engine Technology Are you interested in four-wheelers and motorcycles? Learn the skills to troubleshoot and repair residential, commercial and recreational outdoor power equipment and small engines such as four wheelers, motorcycles, snowmobiles, tractors and more.
Teacher Leadership Academy Calling all future educators come explore the skills needed to be an A+ teacher.   Each day includes a variety of activities, including guest lecturers and lesson demonstrations.
