Driver Education Online Theory Course
This course was developed by the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) and is taught by a Pennsylvania-certified teacher. It is an independent study course and, as such, students are expected to work independently with limited teacher interaction.
The main goal of this course is for students to acquire driver knowledge, including up-to-date safe driving and defensive driving techniques. Each concept is reinforced with study guides and movies, as well as outside resources. The Online Theory Course consists of 19 chapters and contains a quiz at the end of each chapter. Students must score 80% or higher on each quiz before moving on to the next chapter. In addition, students must score 80% or higher on the final exam in order to receive a certificate of completion.
Online Theory takes approximately 30 hours to complete. If approved by the student’s home school guidance counselor, s/he can receive a .25 credit (in which case, the guidance counselor must sign the application form). If the student does not need/want the .25 credit, the application form does not need the guidance counselor's signature. The cost of the Online Theory Course is $110.00.
For Downingtown School District Students Only
A 40-hour course has been developed for Downingtown Area School District students, which earns them a .33 credit after successful completion of the course. Students who choose to take the course for credit must have the application form signed by their home school guidance counselor. The cost of the 40-hour course is $148.00. Downingtown students who do not need/want the .33 credit can take the 30-hour course for $110.00, in which case, the application form does not need to be signed by their guidance counselor.
