Summer Career Academies 2013

Designed to entertain and enthrall kids entering grades 5-9.

What sets our programs aside from others is our small group setting taught by subject matter experts. Every experience includes a career component, overview of related safety precautions, and proper setup and take down of materials. All participants are expected to actively participate in these aspects of the program.

Animal Science		Explore the amazing world of animal science. This is for the animal enthusiast who maybe considering a future working with animals. Learn the health care, grooming, physiology, and training of large and small animals. Visiting speakers enlighten and delight participants.
Aquatics/Fishing		Experienced fishers and those new to the sport will enjoy this outdoor academy! Each day will find the students fishing in a new situation, such as a pond, a lake, stream side, and the ocean. Students will also take a fishing trip by canoe, down the Brandywine River. BFF: Beauty, Fashion & Fun		Learn the latest hair, skin and nail care using the tools of the trade. Discuss the most flattering fashions and hues that complement your skin tone. Don't break the bank being beautiful, design your own masks and discover the methods to hair chalking and beach waves. Sign up with a friend and have fun practicing together. Discover the business behind the beauty industry.
Building Technologies		Get busy building and wiring using the real tools of the trade. You will experience hands on approach to the revolutionary concept Henry Ford used to build his empire. Using raw materials make ideas come to life. Let's build something together.
Commercial and Graphic Arts		Commercial and graphic arts involves creating communicationmaterials that promote ideas, products and services. This program explore themany facets of the commercial and graphic arts industries, and build a foundationin the design and production of a wide variety of communication materials. Studentslearn the basics of design, color theory, page layout, lettering and theproduction skills.
CSI Investigation		Let's solve a mystery! Learn to conduct surveillance operations, finger print and gather evidence. Students will solve a real mystery using the acquired skills. The Academy will enhance the student's understanding and provide a foundation for a possible career in the criminal sciences.
Cooking and Culinary Arts		Are you the next Top Chef? You'll never know until you try, and this the place to start. Learn cooking techniques, kitchen safety, and culinary creation in a professional kitchen. Wow your friends and family with your culinary delights. Each day presents a new tasty creation. Come laugh and learn while discovering culinary careers. *Materials fees apply.
Game Design		Don't just play games, MAKE them! Using free game design programs, create your own dynamic game while learning the importance of mathematical and computational design. Build your own game and play a friends in this fun and interactive camp.
Girls Explore Their Future		This girls-only camp provides girls to try a variety of career paths that they may otherwise consider. Each day provides a new, fun hands-on career experience. One day during the week will be dedicated to a career exploration program where participants will discover their own personal aptitudes. Girls get to explore their future in a week long fun experience.
Health Careers		Calling future doctors, nurses, paramedics and other health professionals. Spend a hands-on week with healthcare professionals and discover the integrated world of health care. You may find your calling. Exciting Update: We will be including a CPR/First Aid certification. For $25 parents may also register to get certified.
Lego Robotics		Working in pairs build a robot utilizing LEGO Mindstorm kits. Using a computer program your robot to move, react and make sounds in order to solve challenges. Investigate robotics components, including: mechanical and software design, problem solving, and teamwork. This is a great session to sign-up with a friend.
Small Engine Technology		Aspiring mechanics, do you want to learn the basics of repairing small engines? Learn the similarities and differences in 2-stroke and 4-stroke engine, engine part identification and troubleshooting. After discussion with the instructor, students will be invited to bring a parent approved project.
Sustainable Energy		A hands-on approach to how we will live and work in our future green world. Construct, explore, invent, create, and envision the future and careers in our brave new green world. Generate, audit, and conserve the energy systems available to the future generation. Monitor and preserve environmental quality.
Writing Workshop		A workshop to introduce and provide the opportunity to strengthen essay writing skills for content-area writing. Each day addresses a different writing skill: framework; compare and contrast essay; argumentative essay; informative essay and persuasive essay. This is not just for the reluctant writer but for any writer wanting to improve their skills.
