CAT Pickering wins Tech Bowl Championship; all three CTE schools take home a trophy

Coatesville, PA – In a tight competition, the Center for Arts & Technology (CAT) Pickering Campus emerged as the overall winner of the 2011 Technology Bowl held at the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) Learning Center in Coatesville on February 14. However, CAT Brandywine and the Chester County Technical College High School (TCHS) did not go home empty-handed.
The Technology Bowl included all three Chester County career and technical (CTE) schools and consisted of four rounds that quizzed students on their knowledge in the areas of auto technology, carpentry, early childcare,and current events. Awards were given to each round’s winning team, as well as the team with the highest combined total points for all four rounds.
Each round included 15 toss-up questions during which any of the three teams were able to answer, and one round of fanfare questions during which six questions were asked and answered by one team in rapid succession within 60 seconds. Each team had one fanfare portion per round.
The 2011 Tech Bowl kicked off with the auto technology round. The first round was an exciting start to the competition with a tie between CAT Brandywine and CAT Pickering. Prior to the tiebreaker, the round’s score was: CAT Brandywine – 45; CAT Pickering – 45; TCHS – 10. CAT Brandywine claimed the win during sudden-death overtime with a 25-0 shutout victory over its sister school.
In the second round, carpentry took center stage, producing a competitive match between the schools. Final score: TCHS – 40; CAT Brandywine– 30; CAT Pickering – 20.
Round three consisted of a showdown between the three schools’ early childcare programs during which CAT Pickering came out on top.Final score: CAT Pickering – 40; CAT Brandywine – 30; TCHS – 20.
The final round quizzed students on their knowledge of current events. Though CAT Brandywine and CAT Pickering were neck-and-neck in total points to start the round, CAT Pickering took home the current events victory for the ninth year ina row. Final score: CAT Pickering – 35; CAT Brandywine – 25; TCHS – 20.
The overall trophy for the 2011 Technology Bowl went to CAT Pickering. Total scores for the day were: CAT Pickering – 160; CAT Brandywine – 130; TCHS – 90.
