1:00 PM to 3:00 PM School Health Update with Colleen Schultz, M.Ed., RN, CSNDr. Katherine Dahlsgaard will address the *why* behind students who have become "frequent flyers" to the nurses' office. She will also provide detailed, evidence-based strategies for how to manage and help these children be brave and return to/stay in their classrooms in ways that are both developmentally appropriate and compassionate. Dr. Dahlsgaard will also cover strategies for working collaboratively with parents, teachers and even administrators to help these Frequent Flyers land safely back in classroom settings where they can learn and thrive. Lots of case examples and time for questions.

Dr. Katherine Dahlsgaard is the Founder and Director of Brave is Better - Consulting and Therapy, focusing on evidence-based psychotherapy through clinical practice, speaking, writing, and consultation. Board-certified in cognitive and behavioral psychology and licensed in Pennsylvania and New York, she specializes in cognitive-behavioral therapy for children, adolescents, and young adults, particularly for anxiety disorders like Social Anxiety Disorder, Selective Mutism, OCD, Phobias, Panic Disorder, and related issues such as sleep problems and picky eating.
Colleen Schultz, M.Ed., RN CSN is the Director of the School Health Division for the State of Pennsylvania with over a decade of experience in school nursing focusing on the K-5 population. Colleen is a Certified School Nurse and has a Masters in Health Education from Penn State. She has presented to small and large groups on a variety of school heath topics. Colleen currently resides in Gettysburg, PA with her husband and two daughters.
Sharon Lawrence, RN
Sharon came to the Department of Health in 2015 as a Community Health Nurse doing Communicable Disease Investigations in the Southeast District. In 2022 she transferred into the Division of School Health as a School Health Nurse Consultant. Sharon currently resides in Ringtown, Pennsylvania with her husband and daughter. Sharon enjoys reading and spending time with her family and friends.
