The Chester County Intermediate Unit’s Integrative STEM endorsement program, in partnership with the Chester County Intermediate Unit’s Technical College High School (TCHS), will address the specific set of issues, knowledge and competencies that are relevant to teaching and learning Integrative STEM.
This program will prepare teachers to help students master academic standards and Integrative STEM skills. Through four blended courses, that include 10-15 hours of active project-based field experiences and two virtual sessions per course, each candidate will be immersed in issues, knowledge, and competencies relevant to teaching and learning best practices in Integrative STEM education across the curriculum. Candidates will also make connections with and gain knowledge and experience from workforce partners, with the goal of exploring career pathway connections that inform authentic instruction and assessment decisions.

Design Process - July 5 - September 20, 2022
The goal of this course is to build your knowledge and skills in supporting Integrative STEM infusion in your learning environment. You will learn to support STEM skill development through active and engaging approaches to each topic. This blended course provides experiential learning opportunities as well as time for reflection and planning. The course includes 10-15 hours of job-embedded activities. Throughout the course, you will be encouraged to explore new technologies that can be used and easily assimilated into your lesson plans.

Curriculum & Methods - October 3 - December 13, 2022
The goals of this course are to provide knowledge and skills in supporting an approach to teaching and lifelong learning that emphasizes the natural interconnectedness of the four separate STEM disciplines. The connections are made explicit through collaboration with other educators and workforce partners; combined with a variety of resources resulting in real and appropriate contexts built into instruction, curriculum, and assessment.
The common element of problem solving is emphasized across all STEM disciplines allowing you to to discover, explore, and apply critical thinking skills as you learn. The course includes 10-15 hours of job-embedded activities. Throughout the course, you will be encouraged to explore new technologies that can be used and easily assimilated into your lesson plans.

Instructional Practices - January 3 - March 21, 2023
This course is designed to provide teachers with the knowledge and skills needed to facilitate the effective delivery of a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) focused, concept-based curriculum a learner-centered classroom using an interdisciplinary approach. Cognition and innovation. As applied to the development and delivery of an interdisciplinary STEM curriculum, will be examined as students explore contemporary research in instructional practice and 21st century skills.
Candidates will learn and develop the delivery and integration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics into classroom activities and concepts. Learners will work collaboratively to develop an interdisciplinary project-based learning (PBL) unit of instruction aligned with their assigned grade level and subject areas.
Candidates will work with Career and Technical Education instructors involved in the National Occupational Competency Testing Institute. This online course provides experiential learning opportunities as well as reflection and includes 10-15 hours of job-embedded field placement.

Assessment of Integrated Learning - March 28 - June 13, 2023
This course explores the assessment and evaluation of K-12 student learning outcomes in Integrative STEM. The focus is on using multiple tools and the construction of performance and project-based assessments. Candidates examine a variety of data to inform instructional practice as well as evaluate the effectiveness of the assessment tools.

Learning Outcomes

Candidates will:
- Demonstrate, through online assignments and field projects, an informed perspective on major topics in Integrative STEM.
- Apply Integrative STEM practices in activities that involve small and large group discussions and written reflections.
- Understand the application of technology using Integrative STEM principles.
- Understand the core concepts and skills related to teaching Integrative STEM.
- Discover how field experiences can closely integrate with coursework, methods of inquiry, assessment practices and the goal of fostering Integrative STEM in the classroom.
Field Experience

In each course, candidates will spend 10-15 hours in a project-based, job-embedded, field experience. Each project is developed in conjunction with the professional core competencies included in the coursework. School and/or workforce partner field experience projects will provide learning experiences that model Integrative STEM teaching and learning strategies.

- Cost of program: $2500
- Optional Graduate Credit: $150 per course (4 courses, 3 credits each course), through Neumann University
- Cost of program with Graduate Credit: $3100
