  • Continuing Professional Education (CPE)

This program provides educators with undergraduate and graduate-level courses for continuing professional education (CPE) credit. The Chester County Continuing Professional Education Council reviews and recommends course proposals to the Pennsylvania Department of Education for accreditation. CPE course credits may be applied toward Act 48 requirements or Instructional II certification.

CPE graduate credit versus College graduate credit:

CPE Graduate Credit: Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) to offer graduate level courses for Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credit only. The CCIU cannot offer college graduate credit because it is not a university.
College Graduate Credit: Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) to offer graduate level courses for Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credit only. The CCIU cannot offer college graduate credit because it is not a university.

Courses offered for both CPE graduate and college graduate credit do not require separate work to receive college credit; you are charged a higher fee for the sponsorship of the partnering University to back your credit. You will receive a letter grade and ACT 48 credit regardless of which option you select. We recommend that teachers confer with their Human Resource Department to determine if their district requires one type of credit over the other.

Quotes from recent CPE course participants:

"This class has made me a better teacher. No doubt. I am so thankful that I was able to learn new strategies that made sense and worked. I started implementing immediately and have seen results. I can't wait to start the next school year in such a positive way."

"This was a great class that built a nice sense of community, too, with the others taking the course. Dr. Yerger was great!"

"I loved all the additional resources we discovered through this course."

"I really enjoyed this course! I feel as though the assignments were relevant to the class and I will be able to use some of the items I have made in my own classroom!"
