Elementary & Middle School

  • The Chester County Reading Olympics is an exciting, countywide event that encourages students to read more and enjoy it! The program helps students develop strong reading habits, which are key to a successful life. It's currently active in schools across Chester, Montgomery, Delaware, Bucks, Berks, and Carbon Lehigh counties.

Designed to inspire a love for reading and teach teamwork, students get to discuss books with their peers and prepare for a lively competition. In 2023, over 1,200 students from various schools, including charter and parochial, formed teams and read 45 books to get ready for the big event.

In the spring, teams gather at a Chester County school to answer questions about the books they've read. Points are earned for each correct answer, and team members receive blue, red, or white ribbons based on their total score. Volunteers from local schools act as moderators and scorekeepers to ensure everything runs smoothly.

When schools, parents, and the community join forces, everyone wins!

Forming a team

  • Elementary, middle and high schools are welcome to form teams following the event guidelines for grades and size. Schools are responsible for dedicating teachers to prepare the teams for the event and also to perform key roles on the night of the event. Full details about forming a team can be found on the Guidelines and Responsibilities page.

Book Lists

  • Each year a new list is chosen and librarians and reading specialists are invited to participate. Lists and details are posted on our Book Lists page.
