A Message from Dr. George F. Fiore, CCIU Executive Director

  • March 30, 2020

At approximately 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 30, the Governor of Pennsylvania, Tom Wolf, extendedindefinitely the mandatory closure of all schools and non-life sustaining businesses in the Commonwealth. In addition to closing schools indefinitely, Governor Wolf expanded the “stay at home” order to 26 counties and extended the stay at home order until April 30. These mitigation efforts have been put in place in order to slow the transmission of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth.

In compliance with the Governor's directive, all CCIU schools and buildings will remain closed until further notice. CCIU staff will continue to work from home throughout the closure.

I know that this comes as unwelcome news. We are social individuals, as such our daily interactions with friends, family and coworkers are integral to our emotional and psychological well-being. While we are all longing to return to our daily routines, the steps and precautions that we take today to ensure the safety of our students, staff, families and community will have long-lasting benefits.

Our educational and administrative staff have been preparing over the past two weeks in the event the closure was extended. Our teachers will continue with their planned instruction, enrichment and review activities online until our schools reopen. Our teachers will continue to reach out to our students regarding their schoolwork, instruction and virtual office hours. Students and educational staff should follow the schedules provided to them for this week and next week. Schedules will be distributed for the remainder of the school year, and provided to parents and staff by Wednesday, April 7.

I urge everyone to continue practicing social distancing, follow the Governor’s stay at home order and to implement the recommendations of the CDC for hand-washing, sanitizing surfaces and limiting social interaction. The more vigilant we are today, the better our outcomes for tomorrow!

As this situation remains very fluid and our plans may need to be revised quickly, please continue to monitor your CCIU staff and student email accounts. Updates and closure information regarding COVID-19 can also be found on our website at www.cciu.org/coronavirusresources

I know these times are extremely challenging as this “new normal” continues to become a prolonged reality for us all. I am truly grateful for everyone’s flexibility throughout this time. Despite the closure, we will continue to operate remotely and provide administrative and educational services to the extent possible

Thank you again for supporting us through these many unknowns and changes. I appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we continue to navigate these uncharted waters, and I have confidence will get through this together.

We look forward to seeing you all again, hopefully very soon, in our offices, in our schools and in person; until then, stay healthy, stay safe and stay home.
