You will need to provide the following upon hire:

• Your Child Abuse Clearance (must be within the past year)
• Your PA Criminal Clearance (must be within the past year)
• Your FBI Clearance (must be within the past year)
• Your TB Test (must be within the past three months)
• Your Valid Registered Nurse License (substitute nurses only)

Certified professional applicants are welcome to apply throughout the year for consideration. This process typically takes two to ten weeks, so please plan the timing of your application accordingly. Please note, if you wish to be considered as a substitute instructional assistant, as well as a certified substitute teacher, you do not need to submit a separate substitute instructional assistant application. 

Applicants who hold a teaching certification in a state other than Pennsylvania will be required to complete an online Emergency Permit through the Pennsylvania Department of Education (TIMS System) upon hire along with the submission of sealed college transcripts.

The pay range for substitute teaching is $155 per diem, $185 Building Based, based on the school district in which you work.

Fast-track your career in substitute teaching by participating in the Guest Teacher Program through ESS. The program provides substitute teacher training to those who have a Bachelor’s Degree but do not hold an active Pennsylvania teaching certificate. ESS has partnered with CCIU to provide a Guest Teacher Program for those who wish to substitute teach in Chester County.

The applicant must complete a two-day training session provided by ESS. Trainings are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

A $95 registration fee is charged to attend the training. Training sessions will be offered monthly at the CCIU Educational Service Center.

Substitute instructional assistants are utilized in CCIU programs as well as Kennett Consolidated School District only. If you wish to be an instructional assistant for any other school district, you must contact the district for their application process. Substitute instructional assistants must have a high school diploma or GED. No further certification or education is required. Please note, if you have already submitted an application for substitute teaching, you do not need to complete the application for a substitute instructional assistant.
