- Brandywine Virtual Academy
- Enrollment Process
-
Brandywine Virtual Academy (BVA) works alongside brick and mortar schools to provide e-learning opportunities for K-12 students who wish to learn online. Enrollment in BVA and related acceptance of credits, therefore, is dependent on an existing partnership between BVA and a student’s school. There are two options to enroll in BVA – directly via private pay or through the student’s school.
Enrollment Options
-
Determine if your school or district is an existing BVA District Partner. Then, contact your school’s guidance office to discuss your desire to take an online course. They will help guide your course selection and ensure credit acceptance.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Why take an online course?
Online courses let students earn credit (original and make-up) as their schedule permits. In addition, online learning develops the skills necessary to be successful in the 21st century, including: self-directed learning, time management, problem-solving, information and communication technology literacy, creativity and global awareness. Classes are available 24/7, so students may complete work at any time of day that is convenient for them.
-
What hours am I required to be online?
The benefit of online learning is that it is flexible enough to work on your schedule. There is no set school-day. With that said, you will need to check Genius each day, Monday – Friday, to ensure you receive important messages from your teachers. Additionally, you will need to pace yourself appropriately to ensure that you complete all course units and assignments within the given session. If you want to work in the afternoons you can! If you want to work a couple longer days and have a longer weekend you can!
-
Am I still able to participate in my school district’s sports and activities?
Yes! One of the key benefits of BVA versus a cyber charter school is the fact that you are still a member of the student body at your public school district. As such, you have the ability to play sports, join clubs, play music or participate in anything else your physical school might offer.
-
Who may apply?
The Brandywine Virtual Academy is available to all k - 12 students residing in Pennsylvania, as well as non-resident students who receive the approval of their school district of residence.
-
What is the tuition?
The tuition fee depends upon the credit value of the course, and whether or not the student's school district of residence supports enrollment.
-
How do students enroll?
Students may contact their school guidance office to determine their school's credit acceptance policy. Registration is ongoing throughout the school year. Regardless of the start date in a course, students are required to complete their course work by the end of the semester. For private pay enrollment, please follow this link.
-
What is the BVA add/drop policy?
Students may drop or withdraw from a course within the first twenty (20) school days of submitting their registration. In the case of a private-pay registration (where the parent or student is paying for the course), it is the responsibility of the student or parent to contact BVA in writing to request that a course be dropped. If a student withdraws from a course more than twenty (20) business days from registration, they will be responsible for the full cost of the course. In the case of summer courses, students have only five (5) days.

What type of computer and Internet connection is required?
Any laptop or desktop computer with a web browser will work. Due to the nature of online learning, smartphones and tablets are often not suitable based on screen size and compatibility. A broadband connection (cable, DSL, FIOS) is needed to allow for a more satisfying experience for the student.
