Each year, over 475 economically disadvantaged children in Chester County participate in Head Start. Head Start supports families living at or below 100% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Currently, the CCIU operates nine Head Start centers throughout the county
. They are located in Coatesville, Downingtown, Kennett Square, Oxford, Octorara, Phoenixville, West Chester, and Jennersville.
The CCIU Pre K Counts Program supports 57 families living at or below 300% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Those students receive 6 hours of services Monday through Friday. Pre K Counts is located in Avondale, West Chester and Great Valley.
Active parental involvement is required.
Head Start classes are held in full day session, Monday through Friday.
Head Start is a federally- and community-funded program.
