Part I of IV

Part I is a component of the educator-training program titled: LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) 3rd Edition (Volume 1) (2019), offered by Voyager Sopris Learning, Inc.

Online video segments for each session of each unit are used to teach, explain, and offer implementation examples of key ideas directly into the classroom. The course includes online instruction of units 1 and 2 supported by the manuals and twelve hours of face-to-face training. Each unit takes 15-20 hours to complete, including time spent reading the manual, working through the online sessions, and completing the ‘Bridge to Practice' classroom application activities.

Learning will occur as participants explore a full experience with these topics:

Part II of IV

Prerequisite: Only PA educators who have completed LETRS Parts I of IV are eligible to participate in this course.

This course is a component of the educator-training program titled: LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) 3rd Edition (Volume 1) (2019), offered by Voyager Sopris Learning, Inc.

Only participants who have taken LETRS Part I of IV are eligible to participate in this course. The course includes online instruction of units 3 and 4 supported by the manuals and twelve hours of face-to-face training. Each unit takes 15-20 hours to complete, including time spent reading the manual, working through the online sessions, and completing the ‘Bridge to Practice' classroom application activities.

Learning will occur as participants explore a full experience with these topics:

  • Teaching Beginning Phonics, Word Recognition, and Spelling (Unit 3)
  • Advanced Decoding, Spelling, and Word Recognition (Unit 4)

The course includes online instruction of units 5 and 6 supported by the manuals and twelve hours of face-to-face training. Part IV of IV

The course includes online instruction of units 7 and 8 supported by manuals and twelve hours of face-to-face training. Each unit takes 15-20 hours to complete, including time spent reading the manual, working through the online sessions, and completing the ‘Bridge to Practice' classroom application activities.

Learning will occur as participants explore a full experience with these topics:

  • Unit 7: Text-Driven Comprehension Instruction
  • Unit 8: The Reading-Writing Connection

Details

This blended course series includes an online component, print textbook, and live training.

  • Part I of IV - Volume 1, Units 1 & 2 = 3 CPE credits/90 Hours
  • Part II of IV - Volume 1, Units 3 & 4 = 3 CPE credits/90 Hours
  • Part III of IV - Volume 2, Units 5 & 6 = 3 CPE credits/90 Hours
  • Part IV of IV - Volume 2, Units 7 & 8 = 3 CPE credits/90 Hours

Enrollment for August 2025 opens in April!

  • Parts I and III are offered each year and begin in August.
  • Parts II and IV are offered the following spring.
  • Each volume is a year-long series and must be joined in August and committed to for the year.

Requirements for Completion:

  • Must have an active PA teaching certificate and a PPID number
  • Must take courses in numerical order
  • Enroll in course in your own IU region, unless not offered
  • Must pay for materials and access to the VSL online learning platform
  • Complete all required expectations by the end of each unit
