About
The Chester County Intermediate Unit's Reading Specialist Certification program is designed for currently certified teachers to become skilled literacy educators and Reading Specialists. This program is a 21-credit program that fulfills all PDE requirements for application as a Pennsylvania Reading Specialist Certification for grades PreK-12. Helping children become deeper readers and writers begins with a strong understanding of language and literacy development.
The Reading Specialist program builds on the theories of reading and writing to prepare educators in curriculum, assessment, and instruction. Through coursework candidates will have a strong understanding of the science of reading and writing as well as the importance of content literacy for adolescent learners.
