CCIU Early Head Start teacher recognized as top 50 early childhood educator
Downingtown, PA – The Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) is proud to announce that Laura Davis, child development specialist at the CCIU Early Head Start Center, was chosen as a recipient of the 2019 Terri Lynne Lokoff/Children's TYLENOL®, Children's ZYRTEC® National Child Care Teacher Award. The purpose of the award is to acknowledge the critical role of child care teachers in providing quality early care and education, with only 50 teachers across the nation being recognized each year. Each award recipient receives $500 for the teacher's personal use and up to $500 to implement their submitted project.
“To say that I am honored to have received this award would be an understatement. In addition to receiving funds for a classroom enhancement project, I was able to connect and celebrate with the best early childhood educators from across the country, an experience I am extremely grateful for,” Davis beamed.
“I cannot say enough positive things about the Terri Lynne Lokoff Child Care Foundation and the amazing work they are doing in advocating for early childhood education and in honoring passionate, dedicated teachers.”
Davis plans to put her $500 award towards implementing activities from the Reggio Emilia approach with infants and toddlers in her care. The Reggio Emilia approach to learning focuses on project-based lessons that are centered on the interest of the students. In this approach, the teacher will engage students to learn for themselves, rather than just answer questions.
“Laura has a gift as an educator and has truly found her niche in teaching young children,” Liz Pray, lead child development specialist said. “She is dependable and dedicated to providing first-rate care and education for her students and helping fellow teachers, so I was honored to nominate her for this award.”
