First In-Person Practical Nursing Program Job Fair Held Since the Pandemic Began
Downingtown, PA- The Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) Practical Nursing Program (PNP) is a postsecondary program that prepares students to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Every year, PNP hosts a job fair in the spring for students to meet with employers and learn more about the opportunities available to them after they graduate. This year's job fair was the first one that was held in person since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
The job fair was held at the Technical College High School (TCHS) Brandywine Campus on May 18, and over 30 employers and 50 PNP students attended. The event allowed students the chance to talk with partners one-on-one and discuss job opportunities and career goals. Attending partners were able to speak with students and organize further interviews and employment opportunities.
Erica Conicerri, clinical supervisor from Maxim Healthcare Services, who attended the event as a representative for the first time, said “I really love this job fair because I get to engage with students and explain to them the different nursing career options they have.” She continued, "What's great about working for Maxim is that they provide so much flexibility! You can set your own schedule and choose which days and hours you want to work."
Current PNP student, Ashley Dais, began the program in March 2022. Prior to this, Ashley worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with Alzheimer's patients for over 10 years. “I joined this program because I wanted to learn more about acute care and outpatient rehabilitation care. I was comfortable as a CNA, so I wanted to push myself to learn new skills in the nursing field,” Dias said, when asked why she chose to enter the program. “A lot of health care facilities and hospitals are in need of people, so I feel like it’s a great career to get into, especially if you love helping other people and find satisfaction from it," she continued, reflecting on the importance of nursing.
