Friday, February 16, 2024 - Update

This is an update regarding the planned detour for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Boot Road Bridge Replacement over Amtrak Project.

In the interest of public safety, the department plans to implement a full detour, closing Boot Road at the bridge to all traffic for the construction. Full closure is anticipated in April 2024, if not sooner. This change in strategy to a full detour will allow the bridge to be completed faster than the initially designed staged construction. If construction begins in April 2024, it isanticipated that the bridge will be open to all traffic by the end of the year.

Further updates will be communicated across the organization as they become available.

The H&K Group, contracted by PennDOT, is set to replace the bridge over the railroad tracks on Boot Road, just east of the 443-455 Boot Road location (TCHS Brandywine and the Educational Service Center).

During the construction period, traffic will be restricted to one-way flow westbound on Boot Road, crossing the bridge.

The construction is scheduled for two periods:

1. October 23, 2023, to November 15, 2023

2. February 26, 2024, to July 11, 2025

Detour route signs were planned to be installed on October 2, 2023, which you may have already noticed. Please use the following links for the car detour plans and the truck detour plans.

The CCIU transportation department will notify school districts about this construction so they can make appropriate arrangements for student transportation to 443-455 Boot Road site, Ridgewood Early Learning Center and our future 1002 South Chestnut Street. School buses traveling westbound over the bridge will not be affected by the 23-ton weight and 12' width restrictions during construction.

We will provide updates about this construction on the CCIU website for visitors and will continue to update as more information becomes available. Please share this infomation with any guests visiting the 443-455 Boot Road site:
